Giving and gratitude.

What a community we have!

We had a great grand opening – complete with a ribbon cutting – at The Commons at Riverway last Sunday. We had immense support from the community and appreciate all of you who came out to show your support by shopping in our local Maker’s Market and sampling the nutritious and delicious menu items in the café. And we can’t wait to see you again soon! The café and market is open the first three Saturdays and Sundays in December from 8 until 2… come and eat in, take out, and buy gifts!

Thanksgiving dinner for 650 families and seniors

This Wednesday, we are distributing 650 Thanksgiving meals across the Cape in Sandwich, Falmouth, Hyannis, Dennis and Yarmouth. The meal is being prepared at three kitchens that exemplify exactly what we’re all about – collaboration! In addition to Jeni at the Riverway, Chef Steve Higgins at the Yarmouth Hearth ‘n Kettle and Chef T at Camp Wingate Kirkland are busy preparing food to feed our community this holiday. And, a big thank you to Centerville Pie Company for donating the pies! All of it will be packaged and delivered by an army of amazing volunteers. It’s easy to see that love is always our secret ingredient.

FTC is getting a refrigerated truck!

We are beyond honored to accept an Urban Agenda grant that will allow us to purchase a refrigerated truck! This will make an enormous difference as we continue to serve the community and promote job creation through our shared kitchen and the promotion of local food entrepreneurs.

Announcing Whole Foods as our newest partner

The Collaborative is beyond excited about what this will mean to our community as we begin to take food in from Whole Foods every week. With the cost of food continually on the rise, we see in our everyday mission the impact on families and fixed-income seniors. Having access to food we can use to cook with for our dinners is a huge win for the community.

2021 Emerging Community Leader

Along with Tara Vargas Wallas, Jeni was honored and humbled at the CCYP Community Breakfast as she received the 2021 Emerging Community Leader Award. The award is given in recognition for exemplary community leadership and civic engagement, and gratitude for the positive impact her work is having in shaping the Cape’s future. Go, Jeni and Tara!

Invest in the Future of Cape Cod

#GivingTuesday is November 30, a day created by some dedicated and visionary folks at the 92nd Street Y in New York City in 2012. This national day of giving is a wonderful time to show your support for the people and organizations who are making a difference in your community.

Our next critical goal is to raise $500,000 to secure the mortgage at 1338 Route 28, the former Riverway Lobster House. Once we’ve secured the mortgage, the current owner will loan us back $500,000 to cover the first year of operating expenses. This is a unique model that combines philanthropy and social entrepreneurship to create real, sustainable change! Together, we can solve the problem of hunger and increase nutritional security on Cape Cod.
